Brief:

Swedish developer, Redab Properties, had acquired a major sea front property in Essex and required planning permission to create a multi-million residential and commercial development. Faced with stiff local opposition, the company retained Fabrick to provide public relations, public affairs and lobbying support.

The Solution:

Fabrick’s Company Founder Colin Felton, utilised his extensive local knowledge of Southend to create and implement an extensive local PR campaign.

The campaign was launched in phases with the first phase being delivered over a four month period. During this time Fabrick contacted every local councillor, business group and trade association to help explain the scheme and its benefits to the local Southend economy. Brochures and models were also produced to further explain the scheme.

Phase two focused on promoting and communicating the benefits of Southend as a place to live in the UK.

The local PR activities organised by Fabrick were supported by an open day attended by interested focus groups and local politicians.

The Results:

  • Successfully gained planning approval for the £15 million development
  • Secured major press coverage for the project, including two front page leads in the local Southend Echo newspaper
  • Delivered highly effective lobbying campaign through influential meetings with stakeholders including local residents and planning committee

“Fabrick worked hard to ensure that Redab was given planning permission for this development that was set within a conservation area and had considerable opposition from Councillors and local residents from the beginning. I am convinced that it was Fabrick’s hard work that enabled us to proceed successfully with this development by changing public opinion.”
